Bamburg

Somehow we managed to make up for lost time sailing through the night and we awoke to be moored outside Bamburg. This is a town in Northern Bavaria that is laid out over 7 hills and the Regnitz river meets the Main. The town was unaffected by the war and the old buildings date back to the 11th century. The Rathaus or town hall is heavily muralled on both sides.

Bamburg is also known as the beer capital with some 18 breweries in the township and multiple on the surrounding area. our guide said it should be in the Guinness world records but as that is sponsored by Guinness it wont happen.

Our guide was pretty uninspiring to say the least, and most of the group switched off about half way through. At least she didn't break out in song! Ann and I are both still under the weather with the bug going through the ship but we are dosing up with Difflam, Panadol and Aspirin hoping that we can shake it pretty quickly.

We had some free time to explore before returning to the bus so we found a coffee shop firstly and relaxed with a coffee and cake. We then wandered down the mall through the market stall and found a chemist to resupply on drugs. All too soon our Bamburg tour came to an end and we were back on the boat heading to the next port. Ann and I decided to take a break and try and sleep off the lurgy.
