Still Travelling
Our flight to Budapest could not have started quickly enough, and certainly could have finished quicker. We had 2 seats 1 row back from the front of the economy seats. In front of us were 3 people, one of which could have done with a decent shower, and behind us a noisy obnoxious woman and her husband who persisted in kicking the back of my seat for 5 hours, in between coughing fits. Landing at Budapest, was a great feeling, until...... Everyone was ready to disembark when the Captain made an announcement for us all to remain seated while he got airport security to come and remove a passenger. The minutes seemed like hours and what made matters worse was the air conditioning had shut down as the engines were off.
Eventually we were cleared to disembark and we did so with a great deal of haste. Getting through immigration was simple, and border control was even easier. With bags in hand we just had to wait for the prearranged driver. Another short wait and we were on our way. It was about a 45 minute drive from the airport to the Prestige Hotel, situated in the centre of Budapest.
On arrival we were told we had our room upgraded to a prestige suite, and when we opened the door we were pleasantly surprised. We had a room with a king bed as well as a sitting area, full bathroom, and a day area. The staff here are exceptional and are willing to help with any small task. After a nice long hot shower, we rested for a bit before heading off to Dinner at Rezkakas Bistro. This is situated near the Basilica, and has Hungarian meals and entertainment. The meal was fantastic even if it was a little expensive. It was worth it with the extra entertainment and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We did read some reviews on trip advisor and after our experience can only assume the not so positive reviews were written by a lot of serial complainers.
The whole area seemed to be a restaurant district with eateries everywhere with the occasional souvenir shop thrown in. One of the streets is closed to traffic, although I seriously doubt you could get two vehicles driving in different directions there. The diamond in the crown is the Basilica. At night it is a very commanding sight. It probably still is during the day but you be the judge.
