On Our Way

Still at Birdwood and we are finishing off some tasks before heading off. Our house sitters are sorted and the horses know something is happening as they seemed a little restless when I went out this morning. We had a few hours free before we headed to the airport so I ventured out to the paddock to assess the weed situation. Merlin, our always inquisitive Clydesdale quarter horse cross, and his partner in crime Murphy the Donkey had to get their heads down to see what I was looking at. Merlin decided to empty out the bag of weeds I had pulled out for me to make sure I wasn't taking his feed. Storm, the Standardbred was his normal non-plussed self.

After we had gone through the afternoon chores we packed and headed to the airport. For once, the traffic was relatively good on the drive in. Check in was fairly simple and we both made it through security without being swab tested. Security at Adelaide airport had me wondering. They have constant announcements about leaving unattended luggage, and to report such breaches to security. We noticed what appeared to be a neck pillow left unattended on a bench. After about 15 minutes when no one claimed it I went to Security to report the unattended item. I was gobsmacked by the response I got. the exact words were " That's nothing to worry about, it has been through here so it has been checked. " REALLY!

Eventually we boarded our Qatar airlines flight for Doha, the first leg of our flight. This is the first time we have flown with Qatar and the service was impeccable. We had extra legroom seats and to begin with they were great. Unfortunately there was a dodgy cabin light that could not be turned off so they found another extra legroom seat closer to the front for us. They moved all our cabin luggage and fussed over us for the remainder of the flight. Three movies, dinner, a snack, breakfast and multiple drinks later we arrived in Doha at 3:15 AM.

After navigating our way through the transfer security checks, we settled in a gate area waiting for the flight allocations to the gates. Doha airport seems fairly large, although it's hard to figure out how big it really is. There are heaps of duty free shops and food stops, and 5 gate areas with multiple gates in each. We were in the C gate area and saw the numbers up to 93. Fortunately we were in gate C57.
